LGBT. Ted Lasso season 3: Colin coming out as gay

There is a lot of pressure to be a good footballer and to win matches. Being gay just adds more anxiety to the mixture in a sporting world where you’re supposed to be “macho”. Too afraid to come out. Afraid that fans will make jokes of him. Afraid his team mates would make him an outcast and sideline him out of games. The world is still unwelcoming to those coming out of their closet. There is still a long way to go before everyone can just let people live their lives freely and openly just the way they are.

So it was refreshing to see that no one bats an eyelid at finding out that some one close to them is gay in Ted Lasso season 3. The captain was upset that the Colin, the player couldn’t confide in him as he didn’t think anything of it. The captain didn’t care about his sexuality. He is a human being, great footballer and a friend and thats all that mattered for the captain.

I have seen my younger brother go through so so much turmoil coming to terms with his own sexuality. It was heart breaking when I found out that he had been battling with himself for many years before he told me. He didn't tell me until he was in his mid 20s. I wish he could l have told me sooner because I too didn’t care either that he is gay. All I cared for was for my brother to be happy and healthy. Nothing else mattered. He is a great human being and helping hundreds of people as a medical doctor and thats all that mattered. Even though he was born and bred in the U.K, having an Indian heritage was an extra block to coming out. There was pressure on him to get married but he had a good excuse to stop parents from pressurising him as becoming a consultant in medical field takes most into their early to mid 30’s.   Now in his late 30's, most of extended family know about his sexuality but keep it a hush hush - a taboo you don't talk about.

There is still a long way to go until every LGBT can live as freely and open as everyone else.  Hopefully the Ted Lasso season 3 will educate more people that LGBT are human beings and have just as much of a right to live the way they want to & with whom they want to.  This in turn will help people express more freely who they are and not be afraid to do so.  To talk about it where no one bats an eye lid or roll their eyes up about it

There is also a spiritual journey inwards for those having an internal battle.  My brother tried hard to be "normal" whatever that means! He wanted to have a traditional marriage with a female and have children.  He battled many inner demons telling him that he could not live in society as being gay.  His journey inwards, sparked a spiritual growth where he started to shed layer layers that he is not - layers that society had conditioned him with.  The true him at the core of the onion slowly emerged after many layers were peeled away.

If you are battling with yourself and need help blasting away conscious & unconscious layers  of who you are not, Root Cause therapy can help.  It can also help with many unconscious childhood issues that also cause anxiety & depression later in life.
